The Cardiovascular Benefits of Qigong

Qigong is a practice used in traditional Chinese medicine that integrates breathing, mind, and body adjustments in order to heal and rebalance the body. There are many documented health benefits from attending Qigong classes, especially for heart health, so these mind-body exercises are particularly beneficial to senior class members and those with or recovering from heart conditions.

Reducing hypertension and blood pressure

Hypertension is a long-term medical condition that causes persistently heightened blood pressure in the arteries. Around a third of adults in the UK have high blood pressure, though they may not be aware of it. When left untreated, it can cause serious health problems later in life. There have been numerous scientific studies that have cited Qigong classes as an effective therapy for hypertension without serious adverse events, helping to regulate

Boost heart rate variability (HRV)

Heart rate variability (HRV) is the change in time intervals between heartbeats, and is directly linked to the body’s health and efficiency. Generally speaking, the greater the HRV (or more time passing between heart beats), the better your health and your heart’s health. Boosting your HRV is an effective way of improving your health, but it’s also been somewhat of a challenge in the health and fitness industry, especially for those with heart conditions or older patients. According to studies, even 10 minutes of Qigong practice a day has been found to increase heart rate variability.

Improve heart function

Qigong classes or practising the discipline at home has been shown to reduce elevated heart rates and improve your hearts function. Both Tai Chi classes and Qigong are used to lower elevated or irregular heart rates, as well as improvements in mobility and mental outlook. Some studies have even shown that Qigong not only lowered the blood pressure of those involved, particularly in those with hypertension, but also elevated it in the hypotensive (low blood pressure) patients.

Heart rehabilitation for patients in recovery

One of the most impressive uses of Qigong is its use to rehabilitate patients with heart disease. Studies have shown that Qigong and Tai Chi can not only aid in the lowering of blood pressure, but also improve physiological outcomes, biochemical outcomes, physical heart function, quality of life, and mental health amongst heart disease patients.

If you or someone close to you suffers with high blood pressure or heart disease, enrolling in Qigong classes in London and Kent could truly improve your quality of life.
