The 13-Principle Tai Chi Form is what is known as a 'combined' routine. This means that it is a compilation of various styles of Tai Chi, in this case it combines Yang, Wu, Sun, & Chen styles.
The set of movements is 'balanced', in that it is performed on one side, and then the other.
The "13 Principles" combine the 8 'Energies' and the 5 'Directions'.
8 Energies.
1. Peng 掤 – Outward Expansion
2. Lu 捋– Roll Back
3. Ji 挤 – Press Forward
4. An 按 – Push Downward
5. Cai 采 – Pull Down
6. Lie 挒– Split
7. Zhou 肘- Elbow Stroke
8. Kou 靠– Shoulder Stroke
5 Directions:
1. Jin Bu 进步 – Step Forward
2. Tui Bu 退步– Step Backward
3. Zuo Gu 左顾- Look Left
4. You Pan 右盼 – Look Right
5. Zhong Ding 中定 – Central Equilibrium
Throughout this set of classes, you will come across several different sets of Qigong, and various associated exercises.
